words are futile devices

it is time for the malamiko industrial complex (volume 11). May is here. Flowers have bloomed in my backyard.

art imitates life imitates art imitates life. I have been spending time reflecting on the themes of our upcoming album, and one of those themes is loss. Loss takes many forms, and many of them have been put on display as we watch new tragedies and destabilizations of our societal institutions every other week. However, there is also the loss of friends and loved ones. Although i have dealt with multiple deaths of close friends, it is always hard to wrap my head around the idea of never seeing someone again – never getting to have one last conversation – never getting to say how much i will miss them – never getting to see them grow, or see how i grow.

putting loss into words is hard. Instead, i will emphasize the importance of friends, community, and vulnerability. These are the things that keep me going when times are tough. I am grateful for the love i have given and received, and i hope all of you have love in your life.
